The Fairy's Rest!

Fairystone State Park in Stuart Va. summer 2008
Well we have changed our minds again about what we want to do with our vacation spot. As you have read in previous posts it has changed from our vacation spot/weekend getaway (that we no longer have time for) to planning to sell the mobilehome and keep the land for the future.
Well....drum roll please
we are going to have the best of both worlds now.........we are going to offer our home up for nightly rental/weekly rental etc....
We are only a couple miles from Fairystone State Park, Fairystone Lake and Philpott Lake. Close by are lots of other great tourist sites. Historic downtown Floyd Va. The Martinsville Speedway. Annual Floydfest. The Blueridge Parkway. Chatteua Morrisette Winery. Historic Mabry Mill. Fairystone Farms hunting reserve. and the list goes on and on......
I have wanted to do this for sometime now but mentioned it to dh and he said I was crazy. It took another very intelligent great minded man, who thinks like me, to mention it to dh and walla it's suddenly a good idea!!!!! Thanks Chet!! We only kept it listed on craigslist for a couple days because we both knew we wanted to keep it and now we know why!!
So I have got my wheels a turning on new decorating/landscaping ideas. I also have lots and lots of work ahead of me. So if any of you guys out in blogland need something to do just let me know. I can't pay much but I sure can feed you well!!!
The mobile has just been setting there for several months now but the operation of setting it up permanently has began. Hopefully it will be secured down on Saturday so I can actually get started with my plans for the interior. Of course we have to wait for a septic system, power and water. The well was dug last fall.
Since we are in the heart of the Fairystone area and most of the roads around have Fairystone this or that in their name, I found it only fitting that our resort be named
...........The Fairy's Rest.
Let me know what you think of the name. I don't want it to be too sissy in case some of those hunters want to rent it for a couple weeks during hunting season ;-)

Boo Hoooooooo! Sad news!

As you see I have not been posting about my Shabby Little Shack in like forever. The reason being, we reached a standstill wayback and production on this project stopped. We have in the meantime, reluctantly come to the decision to sell the home. Yes, reluctantly, it was a mutual decision due to our crazy crazy lives on the farm :-(
You can see about our farmlife over at http://www.sunnymorningfarm.blogspot.com/ . We have lust listed the home on Craigslist and I am posting these pictures for the intersted parties benefit and for my journal to keep...ya know "the vacation home that almost happened". Full bath
Half bath in 3rd bedroom

2nd Bedroom

2nd bedroom I love the walls and floors

3rd bedroom and 1/2 bath this bedroom suite goes with the home

Loooooong hallway. Laundry is directly behind where I was standing to take the picture

Another view of full bath

Living room, not the best picture, it is much larger than it appears here. Has great marbled plush carpet.

Master bedroom.

A driveby shot while the Williams still lived there!

Moving day! Back side of home

Back of home

Front of home. Colton was taking it all in!!

Front of home!
(as listed on craigslist I have switched out the range with a smoothtop range, this was in my kitchen and worked great but I just had to have a new convection oven with a lot of bells and whistles! The fridge is not in the home)
This is breaking my heart, but I want someone to be able to enjoy the home instead of having it just sitting there running down while unattended. I was sooooooo excited and we had good intentions but we also have to be realistic too. He has promised me that in the future when we learn to settle down a little, hahaha, that he will build me a loghome on this piece of property. I am OK with that ;0)

Well that's more like it. This is an antique enamel table that I found at my favorite antique store and get this, it was almost free!!! Not quite but I used a coffee can of loose change that I had been collecting for a good while and finally decided to roll it up ;0) Good way to sneak a good antique in and not bust the budget huh? I will paint the rim blue since the rest of the decor is blue!
The pics were hard enough to get downloaded as it was but then they downloaded in reverse order. That's OK!
These are my new blue willow knobs that came from ebay. I looooove the way they look. Added the right amount of pizazz to the kitchen.
The cabinets look so good after they are painted. DH fussed and fussed because I wanted to paint them. Hasn't he learned by now, I mean really. After we (mostly me of course) were through painting he said that it was a really good idea!! Well of course it was honey it was my idea!!!!

Oh boy did this ever brighten up the kitchen. I can't wait to get the curtains made and many many more things done. I am contemplating painting over the wallpaper but I am not sure yet.
I am getting ready to start painting the bedroom suite this week and then maybe I will have made up my mind on what else to do with the kitchen!!!
I will post pics of the bedroom suite as soon as they are finished.
OMG this is so much fun. I just love decorating!!!!

Finally!! We have ownership of the dollhouse!!! Oh Happy Days!!
I have started work on it even before it is moved to the property as it is only a few miles away now.
We painted the cabinets yesterday. I have pics but for some reason I can't get those posted.
I will go and work on that now and maybe be back with those later.

Coming soon!!

Groundbreaking will begin soon on this new site dedicated to our Shabby Little Shack. This "Shack" or "Dollhouse" as it has been referred to in the past is actually our mobile home that we soon will have moved to our property near the lake. I decided that DH will freak out if he heard it called a dollhouse and not finish the work for me. The word "Shack" just oozes testosterone now doesn't it. I plan on the word being the only thing about the inside of the retreat that oozes testosterone. Actually he may just need to go ahead and build a garage and have boy toys and a bed in there for him!!!!!

We will use this as a weekend getaway, vacation spot and more than likely retire there (maybe in a loghome) if things go as planned. As you know the plans for the future can change at the drop of a hat.

The land has been cleared and readied for the mobile to be moved in, we even have 4 wheeler trails cut in but we have no 4 wheeler. We do however have a John Deere Gator but these trails are probably a little to steep for it to get me back up the hill. Note to self: add 4 wheeler to wish list of toys for Santa to bring me. I think that will be #47

Come back often for updates on our progress. I promise some pics soon!!

Take care,
Becky
