I am still here!

No I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. I have been caught up in the daily grind of living. Work here, work there, everywhere there is work to be done! I am only one little person trying to accomplish a mountain of things in a little bit of time it seems. Please be patient with me. Things are really starting to look really really goooooood around here, but please be patient.

I don't want to make you wait too long for pictures but I want things to be just right when I do post them. It seems that I have a little tweaking in each room to do and a lot of everything in some rooms yet to do. The home is by all means livable at this time. We have spent several weekends there. I love it and could live there fulltime!!

I really intended to have everything ready before the fall leaves were ablaze but it didn't work out as planned. No one would want to rent a place that doesn't have a yard!!

I am so proud of the way that my great furniture finds are working out, looks even better than I thought they would. It's amazing what a little paint and some elbow grease can do!

I may go ahead and get some preview shots this weekend for a little sneak peek since I know you all are dying to see what's going on ;-}

Have a great weekend.

Hurry up and wait....

Yep that's it. Hurry up and get ready for electricity to be hooked up and then wait for the power company. ugh ugh ugh...... I am not a very patient person ya know! I am so close to being ready for visitors. The wait is killing me. They could possibly be there hooking up my power as I am typing but I doubt it. Should at least be this week.

You have all heard I am sure the old tale that if a spider falls out of mid air down in front of your face that you are getting ready to recieve some money. A spider just came down as if to announce some good news to me. Well I know good and well there is no money coming in the mail today but maybe this is a sign that the crew is there with me some electricity!!!! I have to get this place finished before the leaves start to turn. I wouldn't want someone to miss the beautiful autumn in the Blueridge Mountains because I wasn't ready to get them in a nice room for the weekend!!

You'll be the first to know if that little spider had good news for me today!!!!
Update:
Well the spider wasn't bringing me the news that I was awaiting. I did however get a call from the power company to let me know that they were shooting for Wed morning but at least this week sometime. At least I have a better time frame now. Guess I'll have to learn some patience!

Ryan's Branch area of Philpott Lake

This is absolutely gorgeous! Only minutes away from The Fairy's Rest!
A nice little swimming area and it's free for the taking!

A great little area for the casual dip or a day with the family.

Just a quick little walk from the parking lot down to the water. Several nice shaded picnic tables with BBQ Grills. Even a water pump/faucet!!! You'll have to check it out!!! My family and I just spent two days this weekend swimming here, impromptu clothes and all! What great summer memories made for my grandchildren. They stated that they liked this better than riding the boat!!!

Painting the town red.....

This is my inspiration room. I was trying to figure out how to mix white furniture, appliances and trim with red and black and TOILE!!!! I found that there are other people out there who think like I do!!! Scary huh?
What a mess!

Been painting all day! Whew! Now that is red is it not? Behr's Ruby Ring!! The stove is going to be traded out for a white one. The stove hood will either be traded out for a white microwave or painted white too! I made the valance for the window over the sink yesterday. Toile as in the picture above ;-)
The painting over wallpaper turned out easier than I thought it would be. I googled how to do it and was recommended to use oil based primer. I hatedusing oil based anything until now. I tried Kilz Odorless Primer that was oil based. Wow Good Stuff!!! Highly recommend it to anyone. It was as thick as pudding and covered well. Still dried in about 30 minutes too!!
Today was just the start of a lot of painting. Kinda a drop in the bucket!
Good news ....the septic system is in too!!! The boys worked so hard today too!!

My new shabby bedroom set.....

Remember the before picture in the previous post?
It's amazing what a couple ounces of paint can do!

I love the detail on this bed.

How about the detail here?

They were not intended to be a set but I think it's a perfect match. $100 for the set too!! These will be in my yellow room. I need to find a sweet little bedside table and the furniture for the room will be complete. I have yellow toile for curtains to be made. I have also purchased a yellow and white chenille bedspread from ebay for the bed. I already made a gorgeous, if I do say so myself, shabby patchwork and chenille bed pillow. (I need to get a pic of it.) The kind that sell on ebay for about $75 for one pillow. I found out why yesterday when I went to Joanne Fabrics to purchase some more pillow forms. Way too pricey for this frugal chic. I'll just make my own out of muslin and polyfil. At least the polyfil was on sale ;-)

There's a lot going on around here....

Well it is so much going on that it is taking me a whole lot longer than I thought to get my furniture ready for pictures. In the last post I told you I had been shopping. Well this great bed came home on my truck, along with many other pieces. I have been painting on this off and on since then, but like I said lack of time!!! It is looking great though. And to think the bed was only $55. What a steal!! Maybe I will have pictures soon.

-----

I am not sure if I have mentioned to you before but I love me some Craigslist!!! I have found many treasures and sold a few also thru CL. I actually have now found my best deal yet on CL. A wonderful sectional sofa w/ recliner and sleeper!!!! Blue and an hour from my home....also help provided to haul it down from a third story appartment!! The best part......drum roll please ......... it was FREE!!! I met the nicest young couple too. We have offered them a free weekend at The Fairy's Rest in turn for the great deal on our end!!
-----
We finally have the mobile home set permanently! Whoo wooo!!! It's been a long time coming. We finished this on Saturday and have the septic system almost finished too. Won't be long now I hope. I plan to have the place ready for fall tourist season. The change of seasons here in SW Virgina leads to a fabulous showplace of the prettiest leaves imaginable. I have always wanted to see Philpott Lake in the autumn, while all the leaves were full of color, by boat. For some reason it just hasn't worked out yet. Maybe this will be the year for you and me too!! Won't you come join me? I'll bring plenty of hot cocoa!! Maybe some Pumpkin Muffins?? See ya there!

Treasure hunting.......

Treasures found! I have been collecting vintage embroidered pillowcases for over a year now.
I have some really great ones that I have spent VERY LITTLE money on.

These pictures just don't even do them justice.

They are all in really great shape and are a really really great cotton. You know the ones that feel like silk on your face!

The colors are so vivid in person.

These are for the lavender room. An exact color match. I knew they would come in handy one of these days. I will use these on the beds at The Fairy's Rest. If they get soiled or ripped it will not be a big crime because of the tiny amount of money that I have in each one. I think my guests will like to lay their head down at night on any of these vintage beauties!!

I want my guest to feel that they do not have to bring everything but the kitchen sink for their stay here. If they have small children they will have to carry enough of their house along anyway. I found this JUST LIKE NEW Fisher Price highchair at a yard sale this weekend!!! I am now looking for a portable crib. These items can be folded and tucked in a closet out of the way and should really come in handy when needed!!!!

Babies wanted!! Bring em on!!

The Fairy's Rest!

Fairystone State Park in Stuart Va. summer 2008
Well we have changed our minds again about what we want to do with our vacation spot. As you have read in previous posts it has changed from our vacation spot/weekend getaway (that we no longer have time for) to planning to sell the mobilehome and keep the land for the future.
Well....drum roll please
we are going to have the best of both worlds now.........we are going to offer our home up for nightly rental/weekly rental etc....
We are only a couple miles from Fairystone State Park, Fairystone Lake and Philpott Lake. Close by are lots of other great tourist sites. Historic downtown Floyd Va. The Martinsville Speedway. Annual Floydfest. The Blueridge Parkway. Chatteua Morrisette Winery. Historic Mabry Mill. Fairystone Farms hunting reserve. and the list goes on and on......
I have wanted to do this for sometime now but mentioned it to dh and he said I was crazy. It took another very intelligent great minded man, who thinks like me, to mention it to dh and walla it's suddenly a good idea!!!!! Thanks Chet!! We only kept it listed on craigslist for a couple days because we both knew we wanted to keep it and now we know why!!
So I have got my wheels a turning on new decorating/landscaping ideas. I also have lots and lots of work ahead of me. So if any of you guys out in blogland need something to do just let me know. I can't pay much but I sure can feed you well!!!
The mobile has just been setting there for several months now but the operation of setting it up permanently has began. Hopefully it will be secured down on Saturday so I can actually get started with my plans for the interior. Of course we have to wait for a septic system, power and water. The well was dug last fall.
Since we are in the heart of the Fairystone area and most of the roads around have Fairystone this or that in their name, I found it only fitting that our resort be named
...........The Fairy's Rest.
Let me know what you think of the name. I don't want it to be too sissy in case some of those hunters want to rent it for a couple weeks during hunting season ;-)

Boo Hoooooooo! Sad news!

As you see I have not been posting about my Shabby Little Shack in like forever. The reason being, we reached a standstill wayback and production on this project stopped. We have in the meantime, reluctantly come to the decision to sell the home. Yes, reluctantly, it was a mutual decision due to our crazy crazy lives on the farm :-(
You can see about our farmlife over at http://www.sunnymorningfarm.blogspot.com/ . We have lust listed the home on Craigslist and I am posting these pictures for the intersted parties benefit and for my journal to keep...ya know "the vacation home that almost happened". Full bath
Half bath in 3rd bedroom

2nd Bedroom

2nd bedroom I love the walls and floors

3rd bedroom and 1/2 bath this bedroom suite goes with the home

Loooooong hallway. Laundry is directly behind where I was standing to take the picture

Another view of full bath

Living room, not the best picture, it is much larger than it appears here. Has great marbled plush carpet.

Master bedroom.

A driveby shot while the Williams still lived there!

Moving day! Back side of home

Back of home

Front of home. Colton was taking it all in!!

Front of home!
(as listed on craigslist I have switched out the range with a smoothtop range, this was in my kitchen and worked great but I just had to have a new convection oven with a lot of bells and whistles! The fridge is not in the home)
This is breaking my heart, but I want someone to be able to enjoy the home instead of having it just sitting there running down while unattended. I was sooooooo excited and we had good intentions but we also have to be realistic too. He has promised me that in the future when we learn to settle down a little, hahaha, that he will build me a loghome on this piece of property. I am OK with that ;0)
